I cut my hair and spent my last money on my costume, now I'm stuck with ugly short hair... I used to have long hair to my waist, now it's gone, for nothing, and with all the time and money I spent on the costume I could have ebayed the vizu or island guardian miniature I want so bad...

I know I shouldn't care, but I'm really depressed now.

For the record, I think the Melandru entry was awesome, I hope that it got second (Notice: Those 10 entres are not numbered to what they placed).

For all the detractors, YOU go and build costumes that are anywhere near how accurate I managed to get and we will see what you say then. It was a lot of work,it looks great for how realistic these ingame things really are, and costumes fit the GW+Halloween theme that this contest was about. THAT is why our entry won. It was done without patterns, just guessing by how things look ingame. Even the freaking flails on the derv costume were made by us (styrofoam balls, salt dough, duct tape, superglue, and hammered finish spraypaint just for those. The chains were plastic ones from Home Depot sprayed with the hammered finish paint too). I could have 'shopped the hell out of the pictures but I wanted to show the work put into it. It was something that I worked on over months and that effort showed and was rewarded.

And while at it, lets see how well you can get a 1 and 3 year old to cooperate for taking pictures.

I really can't believe that the Melandru statue didn't win.. check out the wings and the detail of the tree..

Now I don't want to be rude, but I don't agree with some of the winners, such as: the Mad King Doll, and the Dressed up Dogs.

I thought Brydon Marks' entry should have placed..

I think costuming is very appropriate to Halloween, but I can also see the value of possibly breaking it out into costuming and other media in the future. I personally feel that all the winners and runners up are pretty good entries - in fact, I'm a lot happier with these results vs the ones from design a weapon (which, if some of you recall, included some pretty "eh" stuff and some pretty awesome stuff). There weren't any that made me go "WTF is going on?!?" (which isn't to say that some of the ones that didn't win weren't awesome, I'm sure many of them are very cool!). But overall, I thought that this group of entries was pretty awesome and cool to look at.

And on a side note, I see Noanoa in the winners. YAY NOANOA! :: squeals ::

Personally I prefer the Mad King statue over the Melandru, it's more dynamic. Both are highly skillful though, and gorgeous.

Don't really have a comment on the whole costumes vs everything else debate, the above is a subjective statement not a value judgement.

I think the Mad King sculpture was VERY well done however people seem to take more notice of the melandru statue. I believe that's only because it has much more color in it and so your eyes are more attracted to it than the blandness of the Mad King sculpture. Regardless, both are exceptionally well done.

How could this not win! its so funny!

Kid rings doorbell:*Trick or Treat!*

You: Kill dog and cast a Animate Vampiric Horror

Minion holds candies while dripping out its flesh

Arts not bad but the idea was genius!

I also thought that the GW guys were being sexist all of the people who won were girls! Not fair, considering much of the guild wars community are male.

EDIT:

I also really liked this one very creative:

Well, I got a finalist award...4 Season 1 Skill Pins, which isn't bad, but I was hoping to get a copy of GW:EN, since I don't have that yet.

But overall, I'm not too sad, since I guess my art wasn't very original and it didn't look that great.

Oooh.. I think Michelangelo might have something to say about the lack of colour being bland. *joke !

I'm fond of white / plain statues, I find form more important than colour. But again I must stress that's my personal taste.

Anyway, gratz to all winners !

Well the first place had really good costumes, and the sympathy vote xD.

Congratulations!
I think you deserved the first prize, all family in the spirit of GW Halloween. Very nice indeed.
I love little Gwen...... so sweet.

i got a honorable mention. im darc sword the shing jea ritualist. but my girlfriend didn't win and she made ancient ritualist black like the one in the top 10. it took me 2-3 months to make it. it was hand sewn because i don't know how to use a machine, and was the first costume i have made. most of the people that i saw won are not cosplayers or are new to it. i think the photoshoped avatar of grenth shouldn't have won but that is just my opinion.

"You and Mally would make a perfect couple."

Mally is in my alliance and she is a girl. that is her brother in law, if i remember right.

"the bloke in the red rit armor looks cool now he knows how they feel to had the mask covering their eyes"

thx

did they print a list of the finalists??? (since there are 70 of them, I only see the grand prize, 1st place and honorables on the website...did I miss something???)

And yeah I have made costumes before and know how much effort goes into them, however, comparing a costume to art pieces is like comparing computers to milk, just not quite the same thing. Like has been said they should have made separate categories for costumes and art entries....and idea for next year I guess.

And again congrats to the winners, wish I could have been one too......(throws another dart at MA in art degree on wall).

Both statues were awesome. No doubt about it. I dont think anyone was meaning to detract from the costumes though. At least I wasnt. Good job by everyone who entered.

I like the red rit too, it's very very in character! Also Esadha Kephal's doll costume makes my detail-loving soul squeal. Out of all the entries shown, http://www.guildwars.com/events/cont.../mention20.php is my absolute favourite though.

I think all the costumes are well done, though several could have used fluffy petticoats to make the skirts seem poofier. I think at least the dervish costumes would have looked even more impressive if the skirts were more flared <3.

I hear a lot of "costuming isn't art, it's just copying a design durr hurr" here and elsewhere, and all I can say is that it takes just as much skill, patience and resources as other medias. Making a drawing about pumpkins and necros isn't hard if you know how to draw, and I also assume the makers of the Mad King and Melandru statues are much more than amateurs at sculpting.

I'm a bit at a loss @ http://www.guildwars.com/events/cont.../mention13.php however, all I see is a non-original animu character that has nothing to do with Guild Wars, and very little with Halloween even. Otherwise I like all the entries, and I'm also very interested in seeing those that didn't make it to the results page.

WTS Mini Vizu .
